![]() ![]() Phyllis made a conscious choice that her family and marriage would be her career. On the armistice of World War II and Frank leaving the army, they moved to the growing town of Dartmouth where they raised their family and spent all their working lives. The first year of their married life they resided on the farm of Michael and Katy Powell, Franks parents in West Gore. They met at a Saturday evening dance in the old courthouse, on the Courthouse Hill unoccupied by travelling district judges who once worked in the outlying areas surrounding, Halifax, Windsor and the Valley. ![]() Phyllis explained, I grew up in a crowd. During the winters with her parents and other siblings, Phyllis enjoyed the closeness of her mothers MacCulloch relatives in the bustling town of Shubenacadie. They spent many happy holidays picking wild berries, swimming in the Kennetcook river, and becoming lifelong friends with (later Marion Wellwood and Hortense Cochran) their fathers other sisters. It was on this farm that Phyllis, and her next eldest sibling (later Elsie Dodge), were taken by horse and wagon at the end of each school year to spend the summer with their paternal grandparents. Earl and his sister ∞m grew up on a large farm in Stanley, at the time that was managed by Earls youngest brother Vernon Northup. She was the first of nine children born to Gladys MacCulloch and Earl Northup when her father returned from service in World War I. Phyllis was born in Riverside, Nova Scotia, on the farm of Ernest and Emily MacDougal on September 8, 1920. She leaves to cherish her memory her father, Columbus (mother-in-love Edith) Brown III one son, Demetrius (Victoria) Johnson of San Antonio, Texas and one daughter, Raquel Johnson of Houston, Texas three sisters, Shonna Brown of Little Rock, Arkansas Edmonda (Eric) Bailey of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Shayla Anderson Edwards (Robert) of Houston, Texas one brother Drs. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Anderson Barnes, and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Michelle transitioned from this life on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at home surrounded by family. Michelle was featured in the August-September 2022 issue of the Urbane Magazine discussing Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness. ![]() In prior years Michelle worked as a model, event coordinator and as an interior d esigner. She was currently licensed as a real estate agent working with her father at Brown and Company Realty. Michelle attended Velvatex Beauty College and became a licensed cosmetologist. She also served on the Johnnie and Vinnie Anderson Scholarship Committee. Michelle was an active member of the Angelic Choir where she served as long as her health permitted. She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized into the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church family by her grandfather, the Rev. During high school she was a member of the Parkview Liberty Bells. She attended Little Rock Public Schools, graduating from Parkview High School in 1983. Katrina Michelle Johnson was born June 6, 1965, to Alma and Columbus Brown, III in Little Rock, Arkansas. ![]()
