![]() ![]() Engle was helped out by her defense throughout the day as junior Gina Carbonatto (Lake Steven, Calif.) flashed some leather in the second inning as she made a diving grab of a ball hit into the left center gap, coming all the way from right center. Engle picked up her second victory in as many games, relinquishing just two hits while striking out two and walking none. Not to be outdone, the Tigers' defense was in fine form as well, spurred on by four strong innings of work out of freshman Chelsea Engle (Folsom, Calif.). Six Tigers drove in at least one run in the game while seven of nine starters recorded at least one hit. ![]() Offensively, Pacific was led by senior Brittany Hyams (Huntington Beach, Calif.) who had one of her finest games of the season, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored in the game. Stebbins finished the game with one RBI and one run scored on 2-for-3 hitting while Goldsand also went 2-for-3 with one run scored. Pacific's big innings in the fourth and the sixth were kicked off by the bottom of the Tigers' batting order, as freshman Jen Stebbins (Temecula, Calif.) posted her first collegiate hit in the seven hole in the fourth inning while freshman Casey Goldsand (Scottsdale, Ariz.) led things off for the Tigers in the sixth inning. The two RBIs bumped Allen's season total to 10, tying her for the team lead at 10 on the season with freshman Lauren Weyman (Carlsbad, Calif.).Īfter a three up three down second inning, Pacific posted crooked numbers in the final four innings of the contest scoring one in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth, and four in the sixth. Senior Kristen Allen (Citrus Heights, Calif.) took a 0-2, two out, pitch deep to left field to put the Tigers on the board with her first homerun of the season. The Tigers came out firing on all cylinders to open up day two at the classic, wasting no time to take the early lead in the contest, pounding in two runs in the top of the first inning. With the win Pacific improved its record to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in the tournament while the Blackbirds fell to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the tournament. The Pacific softball team continued to impress at the Palm Springs Classic, taking down Long Island, 11-2, in six innings on Saturday, February 25. ![]()
